Applications in the field of construction

Storopack manufactures insulation elements for various parts of buildings. Among those are solutions for ceilings and walls, perimeter base tubs as well as plates for laying floor heating. Apart from this, molded parts are also used as sheet elements.

With the heat insulations made from expandable foams, up to 70 % of the heating energy can be saved and a cozy and balanced living room ambience is created. The following applies: the lower the thermal conductivity of the insulating material, the better the thermal insulation properties. EPS and Neopor® have very low values of up to 0.032 W/(mK) and 0.030 W/(mK) respectively.

A totally new kind of wall element, “INTRALINE®” offers a number of focal product benefits: Fast assembly without the need to install a prior stud frame, and the facility to install all cables and connection points after the wall is already in situ. This time-saving construction concept is made possible due to cable channels integrated in the expanded polystyrene (EPS) module core.

INTRALINE® can be installed in just a few simple work stages: The wall modules are pushed into the short metal U-sections mounted on the floor and ceiling. The individual panels are connected by a tongue-and-groove plug-in system. Internal cable channels permit electricians and drywall installers to work independently. The enormous time pressure which applies on any building site calls for a material which permits fast processing and work routines which allow the different trades to be coordinated as smoothly as possible. The development engineers at the Storopack research centre were able to implement the shape devised by the designer in a bulk density of 20 g/l. This dimension ensures adequate static properties, as the modular core of the wall element is evenly foamed at Storopack to ensure stability.

Even foaming is also important for the thermal insulation characteristics of the EPS. In order to minimize the volumetric space used during transport and storage of the modular cores, the cable channels have been shaped for optimum nesting when the panels are stacked. This also applies to the staggered arrangement of the dovetails used for stable continuous connection of the panels.

Under contract to Isoquick-GmbH, Storopack produces insulating modules for the building sector. These extreme thermal insulating modules are based on the material Peripor (a further development of Styropor) and are used to ensure optimum utilization and distribution of energy in an eco or low-energy house.

Anyone constructing their eco or low-energy house on Isoquick modules with their extreme thermal insulating properties may expect to make enormous savings in heating costs. A further development of Styropor, Periphor has already been in successful use in the construction industry for a number of years. The modules are produced on demand and joined together to form a tub at the building site.

Formwork elements made of Neopor allow energy-conscious house construction. Whether used for detached homes or apartment buildings, these formwork elements are suitable for all walls requiring thermal insulation. They are made at Storopack and only require joining together on site and filling with concrete. The inner and outer sides are each joined by a hard foam web integrated during the production process. The formwork elements are available in different wall thicknesses depending on requirements and can be simply processed also by self-builders.  

Neopor is characterized by its excellent hot and cold thermal insulation properties, its high compressive strength, low weight and insensitivity to moisture, making it ideal for application in the construction sector.

The spiral anchor for concrete construction is a new kind of locating system for D15 tie rods. The patented process entails pressing a spring made of 4 mm steel with a Styropor core into the fresh concrete, or alternatively inserting and bonding using special adhesive where anchors are placed after the concrete has been poured. Once the concrete or adhesive has hardened, a drill with battery screwdriver is sufficient to remove the Styropor. The exposed steel spiral is used as a thread for the tie rod.

The benefits of this system: Because the spring is positively connected to the concrete, the spiral anchor offers favorable extraction values. Assembly is simple and can be easily integrated into the concrete construction work sequence. Minimal material costs and simple removal of the Styropor core make this a highly cost-effective system.


Expandable polystyrene is composed of 98 % air and only 2 % polystyrene. Styropor® is produced without CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons) and HCFCs (Hydrochlorofluorocarbons). Its light weight helps to save fuel during transport. Styropor® is fully recyclable. Disposal into established recycle circuits helps to reduce use of virgin raw material.
